BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :-

1. This Act may be cited as the Sports (Amendment) Act, No. 10 of 1998.

2. The long title of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973 (hereinafter referred to as the "principal enactment") is hereby amended by the substitution for the words "Establishment of . Schools of Sports ; ", of the words "Establishment of a National Institute of Sports Science ; ".

3. Section 2 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the repeal of paragraph (e) thereof and the substitution therefor of the following:-

" (e) A National Institute of Sports Science and such number of affiliated institutes as the Minister may determine.".

4. The heading appearing in Part IV immediately before section 36 of the principal enactment is hereby repealed and the following heading substituted therefor;"

"Establishment of National Institute of Sports Science".

5. Section 36 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows : -

(1) by the substitution, for the words "one or more Schools of Sports" of the words "a National Institute of Sports Science and any number of affiliated institutes" ;

(2) in paragraph (b) of that section by the substitution, for the words " at such schools" of the words "at such Institutes";

(3) in paragraph (c) of that, section by the substitution, for the words "such schools" of the words "such Institutes";

(4) in the marginal note of that section, by the substitution for the words "Establishment of Schools of Sports" of the words "Establishment of a National Institute of Sports Science",

6. Section 37 of' the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows :"

(1) by the substitution, for the words "such schools" wherever those words occur in that section of the words "such institutes" ;

(2) in the marginal note of that section by the substitution, for the words "Schools of Sports" of the words "National Institute of Sports Science&c.,".

7. Section 38 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows :"

(1) by the substitution, for the words "such schools" wherever those words occur in that section of the words "such institutes" ;

(2) in the marginal note of that section by the substitution, for the words "Schools of Sports" of the words "National Institute of Sports Science "

8. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
