Citizenship (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE CITIZENSHIP ACT

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, No. 15 of 1993.

Amendment of section 19 of Chapter 349.

2. Section 19 of the Citizenship Act, as amended by Act No. 45 of 1987 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is hereby further amended by the insertion, immediately after subsection (7) of that section, of the following new subsection:

” (8) Every person in relation to whom a declaration is made under subsection (2) or subsection (3) shall pay in the prescribed manner, a fee according to the prescribed rates, in respect of such declaration.”.

Replacement of section 26 of the principal enactment.

3. Section 26 of the principal enactment is hereby repeal ed and the following section substituted therefor:

” Fees.

26. Every person to whom a certificate under this Act is granted or in relation to whom a declaration is made under subsection (2) or subsection (3) of section 19 shall, in respect of such certificate or declaration, as the case may be, pay in the prescribed manner, a fee according to the prescribed rates.”.

Validation.

4. All fees charged and recovered from any person, prior to the date of commencement of this Act in respect of a declaration made under subsection (2) or subsection (3) of section 19 of the principal enactment, shall be deemed for all purposes, to have been, and to be, validly charged and recovered.

Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency.

5. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
