Code Of Intellectual Property (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ACT.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows:-

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Code of Intellectual Property (Amendment) Act, No. 2 of 1983.

Amendment of section 2 of Chapter 186.


[§2 2 of 1983 ]

2. Section 2 of the Code of Intellectual Property Act (hereinafter referred to as the principal enactment ) is hereby amended by the repeal of subsection (3) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following subsection:”

” (3) The Registrar shall”

(a) subject to the directions of the Minister, be vested with the general control and superintendence of the registration of industrial designs, patents and marks under the provisions of this Code and of all persons appointed for or engaged in the carrying out of the provisions of this Code; and

(b) take all necessary steps to promote and encourage a national awareness of the subject of copyright by the organization of exhibitions, contests, seminars and publications and by the setting up of societies for the protection of copyright. “.

Retrospective effect of amendment.


[§ 3,2 of 1983 ]

3. The amendment made to the principal enactment by section 2 of this Act shall be deemed for all purposes to have come into operation on the date on which the principal enactment came into operation.
