AN ACT TO AMEND THE LAW RELATING TO THE JURISDICTION OF, AND APPEALS FROM, COURTS OF REQUESTS.

Short title and date of operation.

1. This Act may be cited as the Courts of Requests (Special Provisions) Act, No. 5 of 1964, and shall come into operation on such date * as the Minister may appoint by Order published in the Gazette.

Amendment of the Courts Ordinance and the Civil Procedure Code.

2. The Courts Ordinance and the Civil Procedure Code are hereby amended in the manner and to the extent specified in the Schedule to this Act.

Modification of certain written law consequential to the enhanced monetary jurisdiction of Courts of Requests.

3. Every reference, whether in words or figures, in the provisions of any written law, cither than any such provisions of the Courts Ordinance and the Civil Procedure Code as are amended by the Schedule to this Act, in any context connected with or relating to the jurisdiction of

(a) a District Count to a sum or an amount exceeding, or

(b) a Court of Requests to a sum or an amount not exceeding,

three hundred rupees shall, on and after the date of the coming into operation of this Act, be construed, otherwise than in land cases, as a reference to a sum or an amount exceeding, or not exceeding, as the case may be, seven hundred and fifty rupees.
