General Sir John Kotalawala Defence Academy (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE GENERAL SIR JOHN KOTALAWALA DEFENCE ACADEMY ACT, NO, 68 OF 1981

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows : “

Short title.

1 This Act may be cited as the General Sir John Kotalawala Defence Academy (Amendment) Act, No. 30 of 1990.

Amendment of section 6 of Act No. 68 of 1981.

2. Section 6 of the General Sir John Kotalawala Defence Academy Act, No. 68 of 1981 (hereinafter referred to as the ” principal enactment”) is hereby amended in sub- section (1) of that section, by the substitution for the words ” unless he earlier vacates office by death, resignation or removal.”, of the words “unless he earlier vacates office by death, resignation or removal:

Provided however the President may permit a Commandant who has held office for a period of three years to continue in office for a period not exceeding one year. “.

Insertion of new section 7B in the principal enactment.

3. The following new section is hereby inserted immediately after section 7A of the principal enactment and shall have effect as section 7B of that enactment: ”

“The Chancellor.

7B.

(1) there shall be a Chanceller of the Academy who shall be nominated by the President. The Chancellor shall be the Head of the Academy, hold office for a period of five years reckoned from the date of his nomination, and shall, when present, preside at any convocation of the Academy.

(2) In the event of the vacation of office by the Chanceller by death, resignation addressed to the President of removal by the President, the person nominated to succeed such Chancellor shall hold the office of Chancellor (or the unexpired period of the terra of office of his predecessor.

(3) The procedure for the convocation of the Academy shall be as prescribed.”.
