AN ACT TO AMEND THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE LAW, No. 16 OF 1974.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :
|

Short title and date of operation.
|
1. This Act may be cited as the Local Government Service (Amendment) Act, No. 18 of 1987, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may appoint published in the Gazette.
|
|
Amendment of section 2 of law No. 16 of 1974.
|
2. Section 2 of the Local Government Service Law, No. 16 of 1974, as amended by Act No. 10 of 1985 (herein-after referred to as “the principal enactment”) is hereby further amended in subsection (2) of that section, by the substitution for the words ” Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Development Councils , of the words ” Municipal Councils, Urban Councils, Development Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas “.

Amendment of section 25 of the principal enactment.
|
3. Section 25 of the principal enactment, as amended by Act No. 10 of 1985, is hereby further amended by the substitution for the definition of ” local authority “, of the following definition:-
|
|
” local authority ” means any Municipal Council, Urban Council, Development Council or Pradeshiya Sabha’.
