Marriage Registration (Amendment)

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :-

1.This Act may be cited as the Marriage Registration (Amendment) Act, No. 12 of 1997.

2. Section 22 of the Marriage Registration Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is hereby amended in paragraph (a) of subsection (1) thereof, by the substitution for the words “under twenty-one years of age ; ” , of the words “under eighteen years of age;”.

3. Section 24 of the principal enactment is hereby amended in subsection (6) thereof, by the substitution, for the words “value of ten rupees”, of the words “value of twenty-five rupees”.

4.The Second Schedule to the principal enactment as replaced by Law No. 41 of 1975, is hereby repealed, and the following Schedule substituted therefor :-

5. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
