Marriage Registration (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE MARRIAGE REGISTRATION ORDINANCE.

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Marriage Registration (Amendment) Act.

Amendment of section 34 of Chapter 112.

2. Section 34 of the Marriage Registration Ordinance, hereinafter referred to as the ” principal enactment”, is hereby amended as follows : –

(a) by the substitution, in subsection (5) of that section, for the expression ” was solemnized. “, of the expression ” was solemnized together with stamps of a value equal to the amount of the fee payable to such Registrar for the registration of such marriage. “,

(b) by the substitution, in subsection (6) of that section, for the expression ” duplicate statement, “, of the expression ” duplicate statement together with stamps equal in value to the amount of the fee payable to such Registrar for the registration of the marriage,”, and

(c) by the insertion, at the end of that section, of the following new subsection : –

” (8) A Minister shall refuse to solemnize a marriage until the parties thereto have paid to him, for transmission to the District Registrar, the fee payable to such Registrar for the registration of the marriage.”.

Amendment of section 62 of the principal enactment.

3. Section 62 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the substitution, in subsection (1) of that section, for the expression ” The fees enumerated “, of the expression ” Subject to the provisions of section 34, the fees enumerated “.

Amendment of the Second Schedule to the principal enactment.

4. The Second Schedule to the Principal enactment is hereby amended by the insertion, at the end of that Schedule, of the following new item the particulars of which shall be so inserted in the appropriate columns of that Schedule : –

” Do. Registration

of marriage

solemnized in

a registered

place of public worship…………………………………………. do. 1.50.”.

Retrospective effect.

5. The amendments made in the Marriage Registration Ordinance by section 49 (1) of Act No. 11 of 1963 shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1964.
