AN ACT TO AMEND THE NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP ACT, NO. 49 of 1971

|
BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows:
|
|

Short title.
|
1. This Act may be cited as the National Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act, No. 1 of 1988
|
Amendment of section 5 of Act No. 49 of 1971.
|
2, Section 5 of the National Apprenticeship Act, No. 49 of 1971 (hereinafter referred to as the ” principal enactment “) is hereby amended in subsection (1) of that section, by the insertion immediately after paragraph (c) of that subsection, of the following new paragraph:

” (cc) to determine the national trade tests to be undergone by any person, and to issue national trade certificates to those who qualify;”.

3. The following new section is hereby inserted immediately after section 7, and shall have effect as section 7A of the principal enactment
Power to held national tests
|
7A.
|
(1) The Board shall have the power to hold national trade tests in respect of such trades as may be determined by the Minister by Order published in the Gazette.
|
|
(2) The following persons shall be eligible to sit for a national trade test:
|
(a) apprentices who had undergone a trade test and obtained a certificate issued by the Board ; and
|
|
(b) persona other than apprentices who in the opinion of the Board have undergone sufficient training in a particular trade.
|
|
|
(3) A person eligible under subsection (2) may apply to the Board in the prescribed form for the purpose of being registered to sit for a national trade test.
|
|
(4) The Board shall issue to every person who passes a national trade test and thereby attains the required skill and proficiency in a particular trade, a national trade certificate. “.
