Plant Protection (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE PLANT PROTECTION ORDINANCE

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Soda” list Republic of Sri Lanka 3r, follows:

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Plant Protection enactment) Act, No. 20 of 1986.

Amendment of section 2 of Chapter 447.

2. Section 2 of the Plant Protection Ordinance (herein…after referred to as the” principal enactment “), as amended by Act No. 50 of 1951 is hereby further amended as follows :

(1) by the substitution, for the definition of “disease “, of the following definition:

” disease” includes all disorders caused by any form. of plant or animal life or any pathogenic agent, injurious or potentially injurious, to plants or plant products ;

(2) by the substitution for the definition of “owner” or “occupier “, of the following definition:

owner or occupier shall include the proprietor, lessee, superintendent, or other person in actual charge of any cultivated or uncultivated land or any cultivator, occupier or owner cultivator, within the meaning of the Agrarian Services Act, No. S8 of 1979;

Amendment of section 9 of the principal. enactment.

3. Section 9 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows:

(1) by the substitution in paragraph (j) of subsection (3) of that section, for the words” for the destruction and proper disposal “, of the words” for the destruction by burning or otherwise and proper disposal” ; and

(2) by the insertion immediately after paragraph (j) of that subsection, of the following new paragraph:

” (jj) for the prohibition of the cultivation of any crop in any area declared to be an infested area, and which has been destroyed by burning, for a minimum period of one month;”.
