Poisons, Opium And Dangerous Drugs (Amendment)
AN ACT TO Amend the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows:-

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous (Amendment) Act, No. 26 of 1986.

Amendment of section 35 of chapter 218

2. Section 35 of the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the principal enactment) is hereby amended by the repeal of subsections (1) and (2) of that section and the substitution therefore, of the following subsections:-

(1) The Director may in his discretion distribute raw or prepared opium to registered consumers or registered ayurvedic practitioners as provided for in the Act.

(2) Such distribution shall be effected through opium officers who shall be- (a) public officers in the Department of Health specially appointed by the Director to be opium officers; and (b) officers in charge of all hospitals and dispensaries of the Department of Ayurveda appointed by the Commissioner for Ayurveda to be opium officers.

Modification of the Second Schedule to the principal enactment.

3. In the Second Schedule to the principal enactment, every reference to the Director, in relation to an opium officer appointed by the Commissioner of Ayurveda, shall be deemed to be a reference to the Commissioner for Ayurveda.
