AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE GRANT OFFICIAL RESIDENCE AND OTHER ALLOWANCES AND FACILITIES TO FORMER PRESIDENTS AND TO THE WINDOWS OF FORMER PRESIDENTS; TO PROVIDE FOR THE PAYMENTS OF PENSIONS TO SUCH WINDOWS ; AND FOR MATTERS CONNECTED WITH OR INCIDENTAL THERETO.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic socialist republic of Sri Lanka as follows :-
|

|
Short Title
|
1. This Act may be cited as the Presidents Entitlements Act, No. 4 of 1986.
|
|
Prevision of residences
|
2. There shall be provided to every former President and the window of a former President, during his or her life time, the use of an appropriate residence free of rent. :
|
|
Provided that where for any reason, an appropriate residence is not provided for the use of such former President or the window of such former President, there shall be paid to such former President or the window of such former President , a monthly allowance equivalent tom one-third of the monthly pension payable to such former President or the window of such former President , as the case may be.

Payment of secretarial allowances and provision of official transport and other facilities
|
3.
|
(1) There shall be paid to-
|
(a) every former President, a monthly secretarial allowance equivalent to the monthly salary for the time being payable to the person holding the office of Private Secretary to the President ; and
|
|
(b) to the window of such former President, a monthly secretarial allowance equivalent to the monthly salary for the being payable to the person holding the office of Private Secretary to a Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers.

(2) There shall be provided to every former President and the window of such former President, official transport and all such other facilities as are for the time being provided to a Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers.

|
Payment of pension to widow of former President
|
4. There shall be paid to the widow of a former President , during her life time, a monthly pension equivalent to two-thirds of the monthly pension such former President was entitled to receive at the time of his death or would have been entitled to receive upon his ceasing to hold the office of President.

|
Payment from Consolidated Fund.
|
5. The pensions and allowances payable under this Act shall be a charge on the Consolidated Fund.
|
|
Interpretation
|
6. In this Act ”
|
|
“pension” when used in relation to a former President, means the pension which such former President is entitled to receive by virtue of his having held the office of President ;
|
|
“President” means the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka ; .
|
|
“widow” includes a widower.
