Printers And Publishers (Amendment) Law


A LAW TO AMEND THE PRINTERS AND PUBLISHERS ORDINANCE.

BE it enacted by the National State Assembly of the Republic of Sri Lanka as follows: –
short title and date of operation.
1. This Law may be cited as the Printers and Publishers (Amendment) Law, No. 6 of 1976, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may appoint by Order published in the Gazette.-
Amendment of section 2 of Chapter 179.
2. Section 2 of the Printers and Publishers Ordinance, hereinafter referred to as the ” principal enactment ” , is hereby amended by the substitution, in that section, and in the marginal note to that section, for the word ” Four ” of the word ” Five “.
Replacement of section 4 of the principal enactment.
3. Section 4 of the principal enactment is hereby repealed and the following section is substituted therefor:

” Disposal of copies received under section 2.
4. Upon receipt by the Registrar of the five copies of a book under section 2, he shall deposit one copy with the Department of National Archives, and transmit one copy each to the National Museums Department, the University of Ceylon, the Ceylon National Library Services Board and the British Museum in the United Kingdom” .
Amendment of section 8 of the principal enactment.
4. Section 8 of the principal enactment is hereby amended in each of subsections (1) and (2) of that section, by the substitution, for the word ” fifty “. of the words ” five hundred “.
Amendment of section 13 of the principal enactment.
5. section 13 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the insertion, immediately after the definition of “book”, of the following new definition: –
” printer ” means the person who is required to make a declaration under section 2 of the Printing Presses Ordinance; ‘.
