Association (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE PUBLIC SERVICE MUTUAL PROVIDENT ASSOCIATION ORDINANCE.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Public Service Mutual Provident Association (Amendment) Act, No, 35 of 1991-

Replacement of section 3 of Chapter.

2. Section 3 of the Public service Mutual Provident Association Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment “) is hereby repealed and the following new section substituted therefor:-

“General objects.

3. The general objects for which the corporation is constituted are hereby declared to be to promote thrift, to give relief to the members in times of sickness or distress, to aid them when in pecuniary difficulties, to provide them benefits on retirement, and to make provision for their spouses, legitimate children, children in respect of whom adoption orders have been made by virtue of the Adoption of Children Ordinance and the legitimate issue of any such legitimate or adopted child, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces.”.

Amendment of section 4 of the principal enactment.

3. Section 4 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the repeal of the proviso to subsection (3) of that section.

Amendment of section 18 of the principal enactment.

4. Section 18 of the principal enactment is hereby amended in subsection (1) of the section, by the substitution for the words “thirteenth day of June in each year “, of the words “thirty-first day of August in each year “.

Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency.

5 In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and the Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
