Rural Courts (Amendment)


A LAW TO AMEND THE RURAL COURTS ORDINANCE.

BE it enacted by the National State Assembly of the Republic of Sri Lanka as follows:-
Short title.
1. This Law may be cited as the Rural Courts (Amendment) Law, No. 13 of 1973.
Replacement of section 40 of Chapter 8.
2. Section 40 of the Rural Courts Ordinance is hereby repealed and the following new section substituted therefor:-

” Disposal of fines, penalties, recovered by Rural Courts.
40. Where any fines, penalties, forfeitures or other sums are recovered by a Rural Court, the President or any officer authorized by him in that behalf shall, subject to the provisions of sections 38 and 39, deposit such part thereof as is payable under the Village Councils Ordinance into the communal fund of any village area within the jurisdiction of that Court, to the credit of such communal fund in any bank approved for the purpose by the Minister in charge of the subject of Local Government, and the balance, if any, shall be credited to the Consolidated Fund.”.
