AN ACT TO AMEND THE SOCIETIES ORDINANCE
|

|
BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :-
|
|

Short title.
|
1. This Act may be cited as the Societies Ordinance (Amendment) Act, No. 11 of 2005
|
|
Amendment of section 9 of Chapter 123.
|
2. Section 9 of the Societies Ordinance (Chapter 123) (hereinafter referred to as “principal enactment”) is hereby amended as follows :-
|
(1) in subsection (3) of that section, by the substitution for all the words from “recoverable as such” to the end of that subsection, of the words “recoverable in an action filed in the District Court”
|
|
(2) in subsection (4) of that section, by the substitution for the words “two thousand five hundred” of the words “five hundred thousand”;
|
|
(3) in subsection (5) of that section, by the substitution for the words “two thousand five hundred” of the words “five hundred thousand”; and
|
|
(4) In subsection (8) of that section, by the substitution for the words “A person under the age of twenty-one but above the age of sixteen” of the words” A person under the age of eighteen years, but above the age of sixteen.”.

Amendment of section 17 of the principal enactment.
|
3.Section 17 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the substitution for the words “receive more than two thousand rupees by way of gross sum, together with any bonuses or additions declared up on assurances not exceeding that amount or five hundred rupees a year” of the words “receive more than twenty five thousand rupees by way of gross sum together with any bonuses or additions declared up on assurances not exceeding that amount or five thousand rupees a year.”.

Sinhala text to prevail in case of any inconsistency.
|
4. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
