AN ACT TO INCORPORATE THE SRI LANKA CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST.
Preamble.

WHEREAS a Society called and known as ” The Sri Lanka Campus Crusade for Christ”, has heretofore been established in Sri Lanka for the purpose of effectually carrying out and transacting all matters connected with the said Society according to the rules agreed to by the said Society:

AND whereas the said Society has heretofore successfully carried out and transacted the several objects and matters for which it was established, and has applied to be incorporated, and it will be for the public advantage to grant the application:

BE it therefore enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :-

short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Sri Lanka Campus Crusade for Christ (Incorporation) Act, No, 25 of 1981.

Incorporation of the Sri Lanka Campus Crusade for Christ.

2. From and after the date of commencement of this Act, the National Director and the members of the Advisory Board for the time being of the Sri Lanka Campus Crusade for Christ (hereinafter referred to as ” the Society “) and such and so many persons as may hereafter be admitted as members of the Corporation hereby constituted, shall be a body corporate (hereinafter referred to as ” the Corporation “) with perpetual succession under the name and style of “The Sri Lanka Campus Crusade for Christ” and by that name shall and may sue and be sued in all courts with full power and authority to have and use a common seal and to change and alter the same at its discretion.

Members of the Corporation.

(1) The Corporation shall consist of the following :

(a) a National Director who shall be appointed in accordance with the rules in force for the time being of the Corporation ; and

(b) an Advisory Board comprising such number of persons as may from time to time and in accordance with the rules in force for the time being of the Corporation be appointed by the National Director.

(2) The first members of the Corporation shall be the members of the Society at the time of the coming into operation of this Act, namely

(a) Rev. Ananda Perera – National Director

(b) Mr. Godwin Perera

(c) Mrs. Ruby de Mel

(d) Mr. Rajkumar Karunairatnam

(e) Mr. Rajan Hensman

(f) Mr. Lyn Lewis

General objects of the Corporation.

4. The general objects of the Corporation are hereby declared to be

(a) to share the message of Jesus Christ;

(b) to work with all Crusade and other Christian groups;

(c) to equip Christians with a deeper knowledge of their faith;

(d) to provide a regional training centre and arrange regional conferences ; and

(e) to do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects..

General powers of the Corporation.

5. The Corporation shall have the power to do, perform and execute all such acts, matters, and things whatsoever, as are necessary or desirable for the promotion or furtherance of the objects of the Corporation or any one of them including the power to open, operate and close bank accounts, to borrow or raise moneys with or without security, to receive or collect grants and donations, to invest its funds, and to engage, employ and dismiss personnel required for the carrying out of the objects of the Corporation.

Rules of the Corporation.

(1) It shall be lawful for the Corporation from time to time at a general meeting and by the requisite majority of the members voting thereat, to make rules for the management of the affairs of the Corporation and the accomplishment of its objects. Such rules when made may at a like meeting be altered, added to, amended or cancelled.

(2) The members of the Corporation shall be subject to the rules of the Corporation.

(3) The rules of the Society in force at the time of the coming into operation of this Act shall be deemed to be the first rules of the Corporation.

Statement of Faith.

7. A member of the Corporation or employee thereof shall not enter upon the duties of his office until he signs and delivers to the Corporation his acceptance of the Statement of Faith set out in the Schedule to this Act.

Debts due by and payable to the Society.

8. All debts and liabilities of the Society existing at the time of the coming into operation of this Act shall be paid by the Corporation hereby constituted, and all debts due to and subscriptions and contributions payable to the Society shall be paid to Use Corporation for the purposes of this Act.

Corporation may hold property movable and immovable.

9. The Corporation shall be able and capable in law to take and hold any property, movable or immovable, which may become vested in it by virtue of any purchase, grant, gift, testamentary disposition or otherwise, and all such property shall be held by the Corporation for the purposes of this Act and subject to the rules in force for the time being of the Corporation, with full power to sell, mortgage, lease, exchange or otherwise dispose of the same.

Procedure for affixing the seal of the Corporation.

10. The seal of the Corporation shall not be affixed to any instrument whatsoever except in the presence of the National Director or in his absence a member designated by him in writing to act for him and another member of the Corporation, who shall sign their names to the instrument in token of their presence and such signing shall be independent of the signing of any person as a witness.

Saving of the rights of the Republic and others.

11. Nothing in this Act contained shall prejudice or affect the rights of the Republic or of any body politic or corporate for of any other person, except such as are mentioned in this Act, and those claiming by, from or under them.
