Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen Association (Amendment)
AN ACT TO AMEND THE SRI LANKA EX-SERVICEMEN’S ASSOCIATION LAW NO 8 OF 1976.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows: “

Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (Amendment) Act. No, 42 of 1902.

Amendment of section 3 of Law No of 8 of 1976.

2. Section 3 of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association Law, No. 8 of 1976, (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is hereby amended as follows : ”

(1) in paragraph (e) of that section by the substitution for the words affiliated to the Association ; and “, of the words “affiliated to the Association;”;

(2) in paragraph if) of that section by the substitution for the words ‘framed for that purpose.”, of the words ” framed for that purpose ; and ” ; and

(3) by the addition immediately after paragraph (f) of that section, of the following new paragraph; ”

” (g) to preserve the memory of the servicemen who sacrificed their lives in the defence of Sri Lanka. “

Amendment of section 5 of the principal enactment.

3. Section 5 of the principal, enactment is hereby amended as follows : ”

(a) in subsection (1) of that section, by the substitution for the words ” The Corporation may, by a vote of the majority of the members present and voting at a general meeting of the Corporation, make rules for”, of the words “The General Council may, by a vote of two-thirds of the members present and voting at an annual meeting or a special meeting of the General Council make rules, not. inconsistent with the provisions of this Act or any written law, for ”; and

(b) in subsection (2) of that section, by the substitution for the words at a general meeting of the Corporation “, of the words ” at an annual meeting or a special meeting of the General Council”.

Amendment of the First Schedule to the principal enactment.

4. The First Schedule to the principal enactment is hereby amended by the repeal of rule 27 thereof.

Sinhala text to prevail in case of consistency.

5. In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
