State Agricultural Corporations


An Act to amend the State Agricultural Corporations Act, No. 11 of 1972.

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as follows :
Short title.
1. This Act may be cited as the State Agricultural Corporation (Amendment) Act, No 20 of 1980.
Amendment of section 2 of Act No. 11 of 1972.
2. Section 2 of the State Agricultural Corporations Act, No. 11 of 1972 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment “) is hereby amended in subsection (1) of that section by the omission of paragraphs “(vii) and (viii) and the substitution therefor, of the following new para graphs :

” (vii) appoint the members of the Board in accordance with the provisions of this Act ;
(viii) appoint the Chairman of such Board in accordance with such provisions ; and
(ix) appoint the Deputy Chairman of such Board in accordance with such provisions.”.
Amendment of section 10 of the principal enactment.
3. Section 10 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the repeal of subsection (2) of that section and the substitution therefor, of the following new subsection : –

” (2) The Minister shall appoint a Chairman and may appoint a Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors from among the Directors.”.
” Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Board of Directors.
4. Section 16 of the principal enactment is hereby repealed and the following section substituted therefor :

Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of Board of Directors.
16.The term of office of the Chairman or the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Director shall be the period of his membership of such Board :
Provided, however, that the Chairman or the Deputy Chairman may earlier resign his office by letter addressed to the Minister, or the Minister may at any time, without assigning a reason, terminate the appointment of the Chairman or the Deputy Chairman.”.
Amendment o section 17 of the principal enactment.
5. Section 17 of the principal enactment is hereby amended by the repeal of subsection (1) of that section and the substitution therefor, of the following subsection:

“(1) The Chairman of the Board of Directors shall preside at every meeting of the Board at which he is present. In the absence of the Chairman from any meeting of such Board, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, or in the absence of the Deputy Chairman, or where no Deputy Chairman has been appointed, a Director chosen by the majority of the Directors present shall preside at such meeting.”.
