TEACHERS’ PENSIONS (WAR SERVICE)
AN ORDINANCE TO ENABLE WAR SERVICE TO BE TREATED AS RECORDED SERVICE FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE SCHOOL TEACHERS’ PENSION RULES.

Short title.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Teachers’ Pensions (War Service) Ordinance.

War service
to be treated as recorded service for the purposes of the School Teachers’ Pension Rules.

2. Where any teacher has, between the 2nd day of September, 1939, and the 2nd day of May, 1941, been granted leave in order to undertake war service, his period of war service shall be treated for the purposes of the School Teachers’ Pension Rules as if it were a period of recorded service within the meaning of those rules.

Interpretation.

3. In this Ordinance-

“School Teachers’ Pension Rules” means the rules made under section 4 of the School Teachers Pension Ordinance, No. 6 of 1927, * [* Repealed by Act No. 44 of 1953.] and published in Gazette No. 7,631 of February 24, 1928, as amended by any subsequent rule ;

“teacher” has the same meaning as in the School Teachers Pension Ordinance, No. 6 of 1927 ; *[* Repealed by Act No. 44 of 1953.]

” war service ” means service in any of His Majesty’s forces and includes service in such civil employment, connected with the defence of Ceylon, the prosecution of the war, or the maintenance of essential supplies or services, as may have been approved by the Director of Education ; ” His Majesty’s forces ” includes the Ceylon Defence Force and the Ceylon Naval Volunteer Force.
